When Caregiving Gets Overwhelming: How to Ask for Help

Offered by Caring Transitions

I have met so many families over the years who started out with the best intentions. They wanted to care for a parent, a spouse, or a sibling. They wanted to handle it all, to do it right, to make sure their loved one was supported with dignity. But somewhere along the way, the weight of it started to press down. Not because they failed, but because caregiving is one of the hardest things any person will ever take on. If you're reading this and you're tired, I want to say first that you're not alone.

It’s not a sign of weakness to need help. In fact, it’s often the most loving thing you can do. When the days start to blur, when the house gets too quiet or too cluttered, when the decisions keep piling up and your own needs are pushed aside again and again, that is when it's time to pause. You do not need to wait until you hit a breaking point. There are people and resources who can walk with you. It can be something as simple as a conversation, or as involved as creating a whole plan to manage the tasks that feel too big right now.

That is why Carrie and I do what we do. At Caring Transitions of Puyallup and Auburn, we do more than provide services. We show up. We listen. We care for the whole person and the family walking beside them. Whether you need help sorting through a lifetime of belongings, moving into a new space, handling an estate cleanout, or just finding clarity in the middle of the mess, we’re here. Our job is not to take over. It’s to support you, with kindness and respect, every step of the way. You are already carrying so much. Let us help lighten the load.
