How to Respond When Your Pet Is in Distress

Offered by Holy Cow Critters

When your pet is in distress, it’s easy to feel frozen. Your heart races. Your mind blanks. And all you want is for your pet to be okay. In those moments, having the right knowledge can make a huge difference. That’s why I work with pawrents to help them feel calm, prepared, and ready to act.

The first thing I teach is how to assess what’s happening. Not all emergencies look the same. A seizure, a collapse, choking, or sudden bloating each require different responses. Knowing what to look for and what steps to take next helps you respond quickly without panic.

In my Pet CPR and First Aid classes, I walk pawrents through how to check for vital signs, how to create a makeshift stretcher, and how to respond in different scenarios. We talk about everything from heat stroke to bleeding wounds to safe transport. I also help you build your emergency toolkit with practical items you’ll actually use.

Outside of full-blown emergencies, distress can also show up as behavior changes. Maybe your pet is hiding, pacing, vomiting, or showing signs of anxiety. When this happens regularly, it’s time to dig deeper. I help pawrents track symptoms and patterns, and often we can ease many of these issues with nutrition, calming support, or lifestyle changes. I also offer options at pawtree.com/annette that support calm behavior, better digestion, and skin comfort.

Every moment of distress doesn’t have to turn into a disaster. With preparation and support, you can handle it with care. I’m here to help you build those skills and that confidence.
